The aim of the present paper was to study the word "Al-Rahman" in the verse "بسماللّهالرحمنالرحیم" to shed some light on understanding the exact meaning of the word and, accordingly, translating it more illustratively. To this end, different interpretations of the word "Al-Rahman", particularly in TasnimInterpretationof Qur'ān by Ayatollah JawadiAmuli, were investigated to get a more exact and illustrative concept. Then, analyzing different translations of the word, it was concluded that "Al-Rahman" is an absolute, all-inclusive, and unique kind of merci. Therefore, it also includes the Divine anger, unlike merciful mercy which is opposite to Divine anger. Based on the fullness and extensiveness understood from"fa'lan" formand the contextof the verses in which the word "Al-Rahman" has been used, and the hadiths focusing on this word, as well as different meanings the interpretershave assigned for it, the above meaning is interfered. The findings showed that none of the translators presented an exact and all-illustrative meaning for the word "Al-Rahman". Limitation of Persian language, compared to Arabic, and in some cases, the translators' lack of expertise needed for translation were some of the reasons affecting the translation. In the case of the word "Al-Rahman", the fact that the Divine merci includes the hidden Divine anger has made its translation deficient. Finally, to understand the word, the following interpretive translation is suggested: "to grant the existence and whatever an object has the talent for and desires for in the path of its existence and being".
